In order to see the real error instead of the generic 500 error, do the following:
in internet explorer click on
Tools / Internet Options / Advanced
under the "Browsing" section, uncheck the box that says
"show friendly HTTP error messages"
click apply and restart IE for the changes to take effect.
Chrome should show you the errors already.
