If we need a hardware upgrade, how would this affect downtime etc.. ?
Also, how easy is for you guys to upgrade ram/hd etc.. ?
At EDTHosting, Hardware upgrades are deployed in a manner that is designed to have the least impact on business operations. simple upgrades such as adding more memory (RAM) to a server usually involve no more than about 10 minutes of downtime, which includes time for our technician to login at the console, shut down the server, pull the server from the rack, install the RAM, re-rack the server, connect all cables (including keyboard, mouse, and monitor) and then power-on and verify the upgrade was successful. Upgrades to hard disks, CPU/Processors, etc usually involve restoring the most recent backup image of your server onto a new server with the desired upgrades in place, then doing a final backup/restore of any live database or website data from the old server onto the new server. Our technicians then bring the new server online as the old server is being taken offline. We have found this scenario to be very effective in producing the desired upgrade, while maintaining the integrity of the live data and minimizing downtime for the end users. Of course, a custom upgrade procedure can be designed and implemented in conjunction with with your team, if necessary.
